Kayla, a new McNair Scholar, was selected for a prestigious summer research internship at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Nebraska Summer Research Program. This 10-week intensive program, often funded by organizations like the NSF and USDA, provides undergraduate students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge research, offering a valuable preview of graduate school life at a Big Ten institution.
During her internship, Kayla worked in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, assisting with a wheat breeding program under the guidance of Dr. Katherine Frels. She immersed herself in the research process and gained valuable experience in her field.
