Kayla, a new McNair Scholar, was selected for a prestigious summer research internship at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln’s Nebraska Summer Research Program. This 10-week intensive program, often funded by organizations like the NSF and USDA, provides undergraduate students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge research, offering a valuable preview of graduate school life at a Big Ten institution.
During her internship, Kayla worked in the Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, assisting with a wheat breeding program under the guidance of Dr. Katherine Frels. She immersed herself in the research process and gained valuable experience in her field. This opportunity not only enhances her academic resume but also helps her forge meaningful connections with faculty and peers, further preparing her for her future academic and career goals.
