If You Can Hear Me

In a kindergarten classroom, when there are multiple behaviors occurring at once, it can be hard to get the attention of the class and redirect the behaviors. Using an alternative to Simon Says, students follow actions I say, such as “if you can hear me put your hands on your head” and progressively get quieter until I have all students’ attention.

Setting Daily Agenda

Creating an agenda each day can be very beneficial to students reviewing what is going to take place each day and checking off items as they are completed helps to build a sense of accomplishment and helps students know what is coming up next. This helps students know the classroom routine and gives them a sense of predictability.

Write Group Contract

Group contracts can be used as a guide to running group tasks smoothly and effectively. Because each member should participate in making group expectations, they are more likely to abide by them. this will help reduce any arising conflicts/misbehavior while students are working together.

Guest Classroom Break

When a situation or behavior problem has occurred, the student/s involved will be relocated to a classroom that has previously agreed to take on a student for a break. The student will be handed a pass and will go to the guest classroom for an allotted amount of time to cool off and remove themselves from where the issue had occurred.

Private Conference

Private student conferences are a great opportunity for teachers to have a conversation with each student concerning academics, behavior or any other concerns the teacher might have about her student. Conferences can be formal or informal depending on the circumstances, a quick conversation or a meeting before or after school.
