Classroom expectations can be used to come up with expectations as a class. This will set boundaries and expectations for the year and will be hung up in the classroom for students to refer back to.
The tool is used for students to give a compliment/uplift their classmates. The teacher could read a book that has to do with bucket filling and then students will create their bucket for classmates to fill. It is helpful for classroom environment and confidence.
Group contracts can be used as a guide to running group tasks smoothly and effectively. Because each member should participate in making group expectations, they are more likely to abide by them. this will help reduce any arising conflicts/misbehavior while students are working together.
Cold call cards are used during class to involve a variety of students in whole class discussions. The cards are also used when there is free time after a lesson when there is not enough time left in class to start a new activity.
The emotion identification chart is a chart that can either be hung in the classroom for students to see and refer back to or it can be individualized and put on the student’s desk. It is helpful because it helps students learn how to identify and then in turn regulate their emotions and have appropriate responses to situations. Once a student is able to identify the emotion that they are feeling they can then use tools and strategies to help regulate that emotion in an appropriate way within the classroom and outside the classroom as well.
ClassDojo is a communication tool put into place by teachers/schools in order to keep in contact with parents and students. Parents are able to interact with their students, as well as being kept up to date on anything going on in the classroom/school/district.
At the beginning of the year, with your class you will discuss the issue of noise level in your classroom. During this conversation, you will explain to students that there needs to be noise levels set in place in order to control the volume in your class. The students can help you come up with the level names, but these levels will be referred to before lessons, work time and group work.
Morning talk name can be used every morning, when students come in, they are asked to have a seat in a circle on the floor. Then one by one they go around saying what their name is or what they would like to get called for the day. This gives the teacher a sense of how the student is feeling and what they might have going on.
Cool down cubes are a simple tool made from reusable ice cubes to help students who become emotional and need help calming back down. Each cube has a different “safe cool down strategy” that the child can complete to aid in bringing their emotions back into control.
