Three Poets Laureate, One Place

In yet another indication of how strong Spokane’s literary arts community has grown, we’ll soon be treated to an event featuring three current and former Poet Laureates, all Spokane authors!

todmarshall-fbOn Thursday, February 18th from 7:00PM- 8:00PM, Auntie’s will host current Washington State Poet Laureate Tod Marshall, current Spokane Poet Laureate Laura Read, and Spokane’s first Poet Laureate Thom Caraway.

Tod Marshall was recently named Washington State’s Poet Laureate from 2016-2018. Marshall’s work includes Bugle, The Tangled Line, and Dare Say. Marshall is a resident of Spokane where he is a professor at Gonzaga University.

Laura Read is known for her Floating Bridge Prize winning chapbook, The Chewbacca on Hollywood Boulevard Reminds Me of You, as well as another collection, Instructions for My Mother’s Funeral, which was the winner of the 2011 Donald Hall Prize in Poetry. Read teaches at Spokane Falls Community College.

Thom Caraway 2Thom Caraway most recently published the local Spokane anthology called Railtown Almanac through Sage Hill Press. Caraway teaches at Whitworth University and is involved in his community, the West Central Neighborhood, through Project Hope Spokane.
