The exciting changes to General Education include a campus wide First Year Experience and the emersion of cohesive outcomes to tie general education courses together and act as a means of understanding how students are doing in your class as well as how students are achieving outcomes across campus. Understand how we can make changes in our classes has always been a key to making better changes in student and faculties lives.

If you have questions or would like some examples of how to bring the General Education Outcomes into your General Education Course, please contact Chad, Ann, and/or Natalia.

If you are interested in teaching an FYE or have questions, please contact Chad. There are very exciting changes happening to the FYE program and it will quickly become an integral part of how students are introduced and integrated into the EWU Community.

The timeline for full implementation of the General Education Program is academic year 2019-2020, so please contact us to start your FYE course and so that general education classes all include the desired outcomes and projects that can be used to understand how students are achieving these outcomes.

The EWU General Education Program Learning Outcomes are based on outcomes presented by the AAC&U, but modified by faculty and staff to best fit EWU.  The Learn Outcomes include : Inquiry and analysis, Creative thinking, Information literacy, Writing and Communication, and Quantitative literacy. By focusing on these established outcomes we hope to build a more meaningful cohesion between general education classes and the EWU student experience.

** Please be aware that during this transition the “what if” feature available from SOAR audits does not recognize the year a student started and currently can only apply the active general education program. We highly recommend that during this transition time that students stay connected and check with the Center for Academic Advising and Retention (CAAR) for advising and degree checks.
