“From Prison” by Emperor Li Yu

When shall spring flower, autumn moon cease?

Past gold days are endless.

East wind last night at my tower cell.

My head hard to turn toward a kingdom of moonglow:

Carved jade must be true still in the staircase-

But not the same faces.

You know the full thrust of sorrow?

Over-brimming rivers driving east.
