Campus Recreation programs continue to grow by leaps and bounds, with EPIC Adventures experiencing a 16.4% increase in participation during AY2012-13 and Intramural Sports increasing 15% in student participants. In addition, EWU has been selected to host the NIRSA Regional Basketball Tournament for the second straight year, taking over from the University of Arizona as the West Coast regional site.
Two EWU Club Sports teams garnered the national spotlight this year. Women’s Volleyball took the 2013 National Championship. Sportsman’s Club placed 4th in the Carhartt BASS College Series National Championships and were 1 of 4 teams to be invited to the 2013 Elite Series Toyota All-Star Week at Muskegon Lake, MI.
Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is fulfilling our mission by educating future counselors, bringing on EWU’s second doctoral student counseling intern September 1.
Disabilities Support Services is expanding to meet student demand and needs, both in terms of physical space and staffing.
Alternative Summer Break 2013 offered one-of-a-kind service learning experience for EWU students in June. Eight students and two faculty/staff facilitators traveled to Maui, HI to engage in a one-week immersive service learning program through an EWU partnership with Habitat for Humanity.
Neil Woolf, Ed.D., joined EWU as the new AVP for Enrollment Services on August 30, 2013. Dr. Woolf comes to us from Nevada State College where he served as the Director of Enrollment Services. Dr. Woolf grew up in Spokane and is a proud alum. He holds a Masters in Public Administration from the University of Utah and an Ed.D. in Education Leadership—Higher Education Administration from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
The enrollment report shows an increase in overall undergraduate enrollment.
At the Riverpoint campus new student orientation sessions were offered by individual academic programs. Groups were welcomed and introduced to the variety of services offered on the Riverpoint campus.
Financial Aid is working to follow up with students who have not accepted or declined their awards within the system to insure they have their aid in place prior to each quarter. The intent is to maximize their success through the timely release of funds.
Veterans Resource Center received and distributed $345,684 in tuition and fees from Veterans GI education benefits for Summer Quarter 2013. This totals over $2.7mil in tuition and fees for AY 12-13.117 student veterans graduated this Spring and each graduate was provided a Red, White and Blue honor cord to be worn at commencement.
Housing & Residential Life has partnered with faculty to team-teach a 1st year experience course for students involved in LLC’s This fall each residence hall has partnered with a local community service agency. Collaboration with the Office of Community Engagement has increased the number of on-campus students engaged in their community.
Career Services is heading into the fall accounting recruiting season with a number of events to help prepare students for this formal process. Beginning in September, we are hosting a series of mock interview sessions with professionals from local accounting and banking firms to “practice” interviewing with our students. We are also hosting resume workshops in preparation for this event.
