We are excited to welcome Nasha Torrez, JD, to campus for a two-day event focused on free speech, student rights, and campus policies. Nasha Torrez has been the Dean of Students at the University of New Mexico since 2016 and brings a wealth of experience in student affairs, legal compliance, and education law. She has spent her career advocating for students, with expertise in civil rights, conflict resolution, and Title IX compliance. Her experience makes her an ideal leader to guide us through the complexities of First Amendment rights on campus.

Event Schedule

October 1st
  • 9:00-11:30 AM: Staff In-service
    This session will focus on the impact of the First Amendment on our work at Eastern Washington University. Doors will open at 8:30 AM for networking, pastries, and coffee, with a timely start at 9:00 AM. Nasha Torrez will provide critical insights into First Amendment rights, highlighting the policies and laws that every staff member should be familiar with. Following her presentation, a panel discussion with university leadership will explore how we can balance free speech and university policies. Link to Registration coming soon.
  • 12:00-3:00 PM: Student Affairs Staff Training
    A specialized session focused on student grievances, conflict resolution, and legal compliance.
October 2nd
  • 10:00-11:30 AM: Academic Leadership Session
  • 12:00-1:00 PM: Student Leader Session
    An interactive session for student leaders to gain insights into student rights, freedom of expression, and resolving conflicts effectively.
