EagleUP!

September 18, 2018

EagleUP! is part EWU’s Welcome Week where incoming freshmen and transfer students engage in a large scale service project in the Cheney and Spokane community. This is a great opportunity for new students to become familiar with the town and make new friends before they even step foot in the classroom.

This year, we had more than 130 volunteers from Eastern serve at 16 different service sites across Cheney and Spokane. Various projects included offering services to local food banks, community centers, and volunteer agencies in Cheney and the greater Spokane area. Volunteers also assisted seniors at Cheney Care Center, helped with gardening and cleaning at the Washington State Veterans Cemetery in Medical Lake, planted trees with the Lands Council, and helped clean the kitchens at Meals on Wheels.

Eagle UP is part of the EWU Office of Community Engagement’s Eagle Volunteers! program for students, which strives to produce transformative experiences and cultivate leaders who are engaged in their communities.

Other volunteer efforts this school year will include Harvest Fest, Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week, Prime Time Mentoring, the MLK Day of Service, and Spring Day of Service.
