Mobile Food Bank Distributions

In May of 2014, the Eagle Volunteers Program (in partnership with Communities in Schools and 2nd Harvest) was able to bring a mobile food bank to the Cheney community. These grocery distributions are for families in the Cheney School District to access nutritious food monthly.

The mobile food bank distribution at Cheney High School, held every 3rd Wednesday of the month, distributes around 1800 lbs. of food to over 100 families monthly. The distribution set-up is from 2:30-3:30pm, and the distribution is from 3:30-5:30pm. Every client receives a large box (roughly 40 lbs.) of food (produce, bread, dairy, dry grocery items) to take home.

The mobile food bank distribution at Westwood Middle School, held every 4th Wednesday of the month, distributes around 1500 lbs. of food to over 100 families monthly. The distribution set-up is from 3:30-4:30pm, and the distribution is from 4:30-6:30pm. Every client receives a large box (roughly 40 lbs.) of food (produce, bread, dairy, dry grocery items) to take home.

Since the mobile food bank (that goes to schools in the community) is a grant-funded project, it can only operate when 2nd Harvest AmeriCorps are serving. During the months of July and August, 2nd Harvest will not have AmeriCorps and the program will take a two month break.

Roughly 15 volunteers are needed at each distribution to make this event happen. Sign up on EagleSync HERE.
