The Mesh and Marble Monkey Fidget tool is a great fidget toy for students of all ages. This toy helps students who have extra energy, students who constantly move around as well as students who battle high stress and anxiety levels. These toys help by promoting a sense of calmness, can reduce anxiety or stress and can increase focus in the classroom.
2 on a crayon gives students a minute for a brain break. It breaks up the day, lets the kids have some fun, brings calm into the classroom, and most importantly helps students work together.
Restitution letters are when students write an apology letter to another peer after their misbehavior negatively affected them. This tool is helpful in teaching students responsibility for their actions and fostering prosocial skills including kindness and asking for forgiveness.
Each student will have a dedicated section of the room to themselves where they will post their work throughout the year. The first thing they’ll put on their bulletin board is a house they’ve decorated to make look like theirs. This is helpful because it will make each student feel like they have a sense of belonging in the classroom.
Tribes community is a preventative tool to create a sense of belonging in the classroom for the students. Through the development of respect responsibility etc., you can build a positive environment in your classroom.
The Refrigerator Wall is a technique used to display the student’s work and/or achievement. This is helpful because it gives the students a sense of pride and belonging to see their work displayed to the class.
Acknowledgements are a supportive phase tool that allows students to recognize other students that use Life Skills. Through peers recognizing the good things other peers are doing, a sense of community is established and strengthened.
Although it is often easy to get frustrated when attempting to redirect students that have gotten off task, it is important to remember that raising one’s voice or losing one’s composure is unlikely to help make the corrective process a positive experience. By staying calm and using a quiet tone of voice, redirection can be accomplished in a more constructive manner.
Time Out is often used as a punishment, when in fact it is a way to stop bad behavior before it ever starts. Time Out can also be used as a short break time for students.
This tool is just your ordinary game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, but instead of playing simply for pleasure, it is a tool kids use in the classroom to resolve minor conflicts. It is a simple, easy, and quick way for students to resolves issues on their own, allowing for more student independence.
