Math tool kits can include manipulatives, white boards, markers, number lines, spinners, and various other math tools that can be pulled out during a lesson or group work. Math tool kits make math supplies easily accessible to students and provide the tools needed to represent their work in various ways or can be used for activities.
This tool is used for students to create three big rules for the classroom that students decide and agree upon at the start of the year. Students work together to come up with their three big rules they promise to follow and design posters that are hung and visible throughout the whole year.
An expectation letter can be used to quietly signal to the class that it is time to be calm and focus on our work. Quickly pull up a document to type on and put it on the board screen share. Begin typing a list or short paragraph of what you need them to start on and students will alert others around the room and begin doing what is on the board.
Student stick drawing for transitions is helpful to get students moving and wanting to follow expectations. When a transition is being set up and after students know what is expected of them quickly pull a stick and watch for student behaviors and celebrate the ones who are following expectations. This will provide students a good opportunity to see how transitions are supposed to work, and your class will begin to have quick transitions with this motivation.
This tool is used to give students all of the necessary materials that are needed for them to be successful and participate in the classroom. It is helpful because it supports the students and their learning by making it so they do not have to look to find the needed materials.
This tool is used to with a Bee stuffed animal named Barnabee. Every Tuesday you sit with your class in a circle and you as the teacher start with Barnabee and remind the students that they have the option to pass then you tell them how you are feeling today.
This Roll a Brain Break Activity gives you a range of activities for students to engage in to get their bodies moving and their brains re-engaged. You roll a 6-sided die and whatever number it lands on students have to correlate that number to the brain break with a similar number.
Kindness cones is a way for students to learn how to recognize other peers for a kind thing they did that day. Students receive a cone when they receive a kindness compliment from a student and then the next day that student thinks about who was kind that day, gives them a compliment and gives that student their cone. In our classroom we have about 6 cones that regularly circulate that classroom.
The dirtiest wipe contest is used as a tool to clean up the classroom. It is helpful because the entire class is working to try and get their wipe the dirtiest by wiping down anything that is dirty, which leads to a clean classroom. This also helps students feel motivated to clean their classroom and be proud of the way it looks.
This tool is a great tool that can be used in the mornings when students come to school. Students can check in and choose how they are feeling that day. It lets the teacher know how students are feeling and whether they need to adjust their day as well.
