While November has been a difficult month for many people, there is a lot to be thankful for here in Spokane. This month’s readings, chapbook releases, and other gatherings have reminded me of how grateful I am to belong to such a supportive literary community. It’s only fitting that we end November with one more amazing reading to get us through that final push before Christmas break. We are excited to celebrate with our dearest friends, Willow Springs Books, as they release their new Heart of the Rat chapbook. This chapbook is the first book of their soon-to-be annual Zodiac Poetry Series and features some incredible nationally known poets. There will be a reading and reception to celebrate the book’s release on November 30, 2016 at 5:00 pm. Award winning poets Dorianne Laux and Joe Millar will be reading, as well as Spokane Poet Laureate Laura Read. The anthology contains work from former Washington State Poet Laureate Kathleen Flenniken, two time Pushcart Prize winner Ellen Bass, as well as Spokane poets Maya Zeller, Tim Greenup, Derek Annis, and others. Our lovely EWU Professor Rachel Toor will read from her new book, Misunderstood. I’ve also heard that there will be wine and tasty food at this event. The event will be held on at the EWU Faculty Commons on the Cheney Campus. Yes, I know it can be tough to make it out the Cheney Campus, especially when it gets dark at 4:30, but a lineup of all-star readers, wine, and good food (not to mention the company and conversation) should be enough of an incentive to get thyself to Cheney. See you there!
