Brown Bag: Understanding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

January 13, 2017 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Understanding Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

Facilitated by Dr. Nydia Martinez , Assistant Professor, Department of History and Chicana/o Studies Program

Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) is an immigration policy ordered by President Obama in 2012 as an executive action to grant work permits and immigration deferment to individuals who arrived as undocumented children before June 2007. EWU, like campuses across the country, serves many DACA and undocumented students who come from around the globe and actively contribute to our communities.

The Trump administration has promised to eliminate DACA and deport them all.  Whether or not he follows through immediately with that campaign promise, our students and their families are facing great uncertainty and fears. This workshop is designed to provide general information to our community to understand: What is DACA? What DACA is not? What consequences are students facing if they lose their DACA status?
