Proposal Development

The Office of Grant and Research Development (ORGD) partners with faculty and staff to ensure proper submissions of all proposals for external funding.

All proposals for external funding must be received by the OGRD at least 10 working days prior to the funder’s deadline. Earlier communication may allow for phased deadlines.

Complex proposals or requests for consultation require additional time. Connect with us early and often!

There is much you can do to find potential funding. Before you start, consider these questions:

  • What do you want to accomplish?
  • What is the need for this project or research?
  • Who will benefit from this project?
  • What is your need for funding (salaries, equipment, travel)?

Start some online searches of professional organizations and associations in your field. Look at government agencies that fund other projects in your field. Check similar projects at other institutions to see who may have funded those projects.

Intent to Prepare Submission Google Form

For a majority of the Research & Grant Development process you are unable to continue to the next step without approval from ORGD Staff.

The OGRD can help to build templates, checklists and a proposal timeline to support you in writing and preparing your proposal. The more time we have to work together, the more help the we can provide along the way.

Proposal Writing & Preparation

Proposal budgets are built together with OGRD staff and must comply with all university regulations and projection formulas. If OGRD is contacted with enough time before the proposal due date, we can provide proposal review and resources for most proposals.

Proposals are submitted under the auspices of the university, not an individual faculty or staff. The Executive Director of the OGRD is the only authorized signatory that can sign/certify proposal submissions on behalf of the university.

Approvals Compliance

Eastern Washington University (EWU) is an academic community dedicated to providing instruction in higher education, advancing knowledge through scholarship and research, and providing related services to the community. The University has the responsibility to create and maintain an academic environment that promotes freedom of inquiry and expression while protecting the rights, opportunities and welfare of students, faculty, staff and guests. To achieve this, EWU complies with all federal and state laws related to research and has established rules, policies, procedures and standards to ensure ethical conduct.

Compliance Overview

When a sponsor issues an award (or declination), official notification can be made by phone, mail, or email. Recipients may include the PD/PI and/or the OGRD. It is important to forward all documents to the grants office as soon as you receive them. Do not sign any documents.

All external grants and contracts awarded must be routed through the OGRD. There are several required actions that must be completed before funds can be expended or work on the project can begin.
