McNair Eligibility Questionnaire

Trio McNair Scholar Program

Welcome to the EWU McNair Program Questionnaire

This a a brief questionnaire and the first step in becoming a McNair Scholar! After completion you will be invited to meet with McNair Staff to get further guidance on next steps towards graduate school, and if eligible, the McNair application process (a Canvas course).

McNair Eligibility Questionnaire

  • EWU McNair supports first-generation and low-income and/or students underrepresented at the doctoral level who want to go on to get their PhD. McNair provides coaching and academic support to prepare students for graduate school and to complete competitive graduate school applications, including a paid summer research internship! Each fall McNair seeks sophomores and juniors (and maybe seniors – ask us!) to join the McNair family so we can help you achieve your dreams. Even if you are a freshman, you can reach out to us and get advising and support now to help plan for graduate school and applying to the McNair program. Complete the questionnaire below to find out if you are eligible. If you go through the steps and you aren’t sure or if you’re worried you may not be eligible, please do reach out to us (ewumcnair@ewu.edu) to clarify. Even if you’re not eligible, we can always provide guidance on how to prepare for strong graduate school applications. Once we receive this form, we will follow up within a few days! The deadline for McNair applications is November 15th each year. But if you’re reaching out at another time of year or aren’t sure you can complete the application by then, please do still complete this form! We can bring on people later in the year if spots are still available.

  • McNair recruits sophomores, juniors, and seniors (anyone who will have 90 credits by the end of spring quarter following their application). If you are a senior, you must still have at least one summer and the fall after it before you graduate, this ensures you are able to take advantage of the opportunity to do summer research and have a supportive fall class to aid you in graduate applications. Even if you plan to graduate before then, if you want to go on to graduate school, we strongly encourage you to continue this form and meet with us for free graduate school advice! Freshman and those who won’t yet be at 90 credits are still encouraged to reach out to us for advice on how to prepare for graduate school and getting accepted into McNair.
