
Chanel Gonzales is a first-generation and honors student studying in English Education – Secondary with a minor in English as a Second Language. Their expected graduation date is Spring of 2027.
Chanel is involved on campus as an active member of the Asian Student Association, serving as the Social Media & Communications Manager from 2024 to 2025, then serving as president from 2025 to 2026.
Off campus, Chanel continues to act as an active member of the Spokane community, working as a Court Watch Research Assistant for Spokane Community Against Racism (SCAR), a local organization whose mission is to fight systemic injustice by building a loving community where every person’s humanity is valued, and collective liberation becomes reality. As well as maintaining a close connection with Asians for Collective Liberation (ACL), an organization whose mission is to build a world of collective liberation where Asians and Asian Americans can live in a community of wellbeing, safety, and belonging.
Chanel has many areas of interest, such as language/language development, social justice, pre-colonial history, dialects, and literature. They plan to use their PhD not only to serve as an educator but also to analyze language to help connect communities together.
