Reviewing Expectations

Reviewing expectations is a tool that helps you confirm students know what is expected of them, reminds the students what they should be focusing on, and allows the students to take ownership and responsibly of other own actions. It is simply just reviewing what expectations are before an activity or group work assignment. It helps students be on task during the task and maximize time for student learning.

The Learning Pit

The Learning Pit is a tool that clarifies to students that in order to experience deep learning, it will be difficult and it is okay to struggle. It is a picture that gives students a visual of how learning happens. They will learn that it is okay to fail, struggle, and have to work at a new skill before fully understanding and succeeding.

Signal Interference

Signal interference is one of those tools that is a non-verbal way to correct your students when they are doing an appropriate behavior within your classroom. This tool does not cause any distractions towards other students and it is meant to only target one or multiple specific students who are having difficulty that need to be corrected. What’s great about the strategy is that peers around them will not be distracted by this corrective tool.

Syllable Walk

The Syllable Walk is a tool to use when you are releasing students back to their seats. This tool will be a fun and interactive way for students to head back to their seats without causing a major disruption. And it’s also a great learning tool for students in remembering vocabulary words.
