This tool is helpful to introduce students to new books when they are required to have independent reading time during class. This tool can help students who struggle to find new books that they want to read.
This tool helps prevent the number of times students ask to leave the room during important informational times. This is done by implementing the 10/10 rule where students don’t leave the room during the first or last ten minutes of class.
With this tool students who want help from the teacher can clip their name on the hand in the front of the classroom. This way the teacher can know what students want their help and in what order to help them.
For the tool timer, I would use it for a wide variety of learning whether it’s assignments, group work, or free time. It is useful because students can see and understand how to be efficient with what they are doing.
Reviewing expectations is a tool that helps you confirm students know what is expected of them, reminds the students what they should be focusing on, and allows the students to take ownership and responsibly of other own actions. It is simply just reviewing what expectations are before an activity or group work assignment. It helps students be on task during the task and maximize time for student learning.
The Learning Pit is a tool that clarifies to students that in order to experience deep learning, it will be difficult and it is okay to struggle. It is a picture that gives students a visual of how learning happens. They will learn that it is okay to fail, struggle, and have to work at a new skill before fully understanding and succeeding.
Silent Thumbs Up is a method for communicating whether or not students have completed a task or assignment. It is a great way to allow students to communicate without disturbing others by talking.
The Syllable Walk is a tool to use when you are releasing students back to their seats. This tool will be a fun and interactive way for students to head back to their seats without causing a major disruption. And it’s also a great learning tool for students in remembering vocabulary words.
This tool is a great way to implement a positive community in the classroom. Many times we think of positive behaviors and accomplishments people around us do but do not tell them. Praise is one of the most simple and effective methods for engaging and motivating your students. Praise, when used correctly, may help children overcome behavioral issues and enhance their attitudes toward learning.
