A phone call home can be used for any student any time he or she has done something in the classroom that they deserve to be recognized for. The teacher will simply call home, ask for the student, recognize he or she for something they have done well or have been working hard at, and then say goodbye.
Shells for grouping is used as an easy tool for assembling groups by matching shell types or colors. This makes the grouping more random and helps to ensure that nobody gets left out.
A community pencil dispenser is just one of many individual components of community supplies. Making writing implements readily available to all students helps relieve some of the stress students may face when they are unable to provide their own materials, or even if they’ve simply forgotten to bring something with them on a given day.
This tool is where teachers plan with having questions that the teacher can propose to students that can allow them to self-reflect on their actions without causing too much distraction in the classroom.
This is simple, non-verbal, “call and response” tool for the classroom. It is a quick way to get student’s attention.
Brain Breaks are short mental pauses lasting no longer than 2 minutes that are designed to facilitate focus and attentiveness. For a variety of reasons including long lessons, impending holidays, or upcoming tests, students can collectively begin to lose that focus. Brain Breaks are intended to be fun and stimulating by offering a sporadic change from the norm (and sometimes mundane).
Community supplies are table organizers where you have a place to put pencils, scissors, calculators etc. Community supplies is a small way to make school days run smoothly.
This tool helps with noise level, green being normal volume and red being quiet. It is helpful to maintain appropriate noise volume and helps students to be aware of what it should be.
There are 3 goals of creating rules in the Responsive Classroom approach to discipline. They are 1) establish guidelines and expectations for positive behavior, 2) create a sense of order and safety- both physical and psychological in the classroom, and 3) teach children the purpose of rules by connecting the rules to learning goals.
Positive notes home can come in many different forms, whether they are premade or hand written. It is a great tool to show your support to students. It shows that the teacher cares and recognizes good behavior from the student and then sends it home so that the parents know their child is recognized as well. This not only makes the students feel supported and cared about, but also makes the parents feel this way too.
