Build Your Burger is a tool used to help students know how their behavior has been throughout the day. In the beginning of the year students are able to create their own burger. The goal is to have a finished burger by the end of the school day.
Every student in your class gets to build their own custom burger. Once their burger is complete they get to choose the steps for their burger. There are layers to signify how their behavior was for that day. For example, maybe a student only got to their bun, patty, but unfortunately they were unable to add their cheese, pickles, and top bun. At the end of the day the student can reflect on how they can achieve a full burger during the next class. When doing this activity remember not all students like the same things on a burger as others. But they each should have four layers.
Build Your Own Burger relates more to the correctional phrase. It is a tool to help remind students about their behavior in class. It helps them reflect on how they can improve during activity time, reading time, or even sharing time. Build Your Burger is best fitting with teacher centered theory. The students do get to choose what goes on their burger but they need at least four layers. Which is what the teacher decided before they get to design. A good option to incorporate this in the classroom is to allow three minutes before class is ending to let students explain how they think they did throughout the day and turn it in.
