Checklist for Getting Started as an Adjunct Faculty in the School of Education at EWU

  1. Complete the EWU hiring paperwork and mandatory trainings – Annette Clark will email any requirements
  2. Human Resources will send you your EWU email – e.g. cvandenboom@ewu.edu
  3. Complete the ONLINE CANVAS COURSE for INSTRUCTORS.
  4. Login https://inside.ewu.edu/  This website has links to your email, canvas, place to submit grades, important deadlines and much more!
  5. Verify when you are teaching and what class. Go to EagleNet, Click “Faculty and Advisors” – then Faculty Detail Schedule. How to know if you are teaching in Session 1 or Session 2?  On your Faculty Detail Schedule it will say either “Part of Term” and either 1A1= Session 1 or 2A2 = Session 2.
  6. Spend a little time familiarizing yourself with the Grad Programs in general – this page provides a quick glance.
  7. Mark the deadlines on your calendar.
  8. Pop into Canvas and Transfer your Model Course to your Course’s shell. See the Instructions below on this page.
  9. Read through the syllabus and assignments. If you don’t have the textbook – we will order one for you, or provide a reimbursement if you order it.
  10. Update your instructor welcome, add your virtual office hours – can be after work – make any edits, check dates and make sure the course looks ok. If you have questions – contact us and we can connect you to concentration faculty.
  11. Student LOVE it when you publish the course early – but it MUST be published the Thursday prior to the start of instruction for your session.

How to Load your Course in Canvas and Publish It

  1. Step one – login to Canvas with your EagleNet https://canvas.ewu.edu/
  2. Your new class will be a skeleton that you will need to populate with the model course.
  3. Once in Canvas – select Commons, locate your Model Course and then “import”
  4. It will pop up a screen with your new class – and you’ll check that box.
  5. Then you can pop in and make any edits – like your teacher intro, assignment dates and more
  6. Then click Publish
