All of the EWU Commencement Ceremonies will be held in Cheney.  There are a number of local hotel accommodations in the immediate area, as well as the surrounding communities including Cheney. The following is a list of just a few options; for a more complete listing, visit www.visitspokane.com.

Free commencement parking is available on the EWU campus that day in Lots P9, P12 and P16 adjacent to Reese Court.

Free commencement parking is available on the EWU campus those days in Lots P9, P12 and P16 adjacent to Reese Court. Please refer to specific lot information in conjunction with your particular ceremony.

All guests attending the Commencement ceremony at Reese Court will be subject to a CLEAR BAG POLICY subject to search. No outside food is allowed in the venue.

  • Bring only essential items needed for the event.
  • Leave ALL weapons at home. Weapons may include firearms, pocket knives, pepper spray, and wallet chains.
  • If you bring a camera other than your mobile device, please ensure that it fits within your front pants pocket. No detachable lens cameras will be permitted.
  • No balloons are permitted in the venue.

Ushers will be available at all ceremonies to assist with seating.  Seating for guests is not reserved and tickets may be required.

Guest seating will begin approximately 1 hour prior to the beginning of each ceremony.

Special Needs Assistance

Seating areas will be designated for people with special needs.  If members of your party require accessible seating, please identity yourself to a staff member and they will assist you.  Be advised that accessible seating is limited; therefore, non-disabled members of your party may be asked to relocate to make room for others with special needs.  We ask that you limit seating in the special needs area to one attendance per person with disability.  Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Access to a digital program will be available at the ceremony. All graduates will receive a commemorative program with their diploma in the mail.

Commencement is a long-standing tradition that honors the accomplishments of our graduates.

Out of respect for graduates and other guests, we please ask that you follow the following etiquette:

  • Please stay for the entire ceremony.
  • Place cell phones on vibrate and/or silent mode.
  • Remain seated throughout the ceremony as to not block the view of others.
  • Keep aisles clear. Guest will not be permitted to stand in the aisles during the ceremony.

Non-Alcohol Policy

Strict adherence to a non-alcohol policy for this event will be enforced. Graduates and their guests will not be permitted to carry onto the premises or consume alcoholic beverages during any part of the commencement ceremonies.

Balloons

Please note that balloons are not allowed inside the Commencement Ceremony venues.

The ceremonies will be available for live streaming on Commencement Day. Video links will be live shortly before each ceremony begins.
