Please refer to the frequently asked questions below regarding the cancellation of the May 8 Semester Commencement ceremony. If you have additional questions not answered below, please email chsph@ewu.edu.
The Spokane Convention Center notified us that they were cancelling events through May 15 with 50 or more attendees per guidance from the Governor and the CDC. We wanted to let students and families know as soon as possible so that they could make appropriate arrangements.
Unfortunately, no. Any options (other than the June ceremony) for the remainder of this academic year would be virtual.
The June ceremony will officially replace the semester ceremony. Departments may be arranging individual celebrations when the public health situation improves.
The All-Campus Ceremonies planned for June provide an opportunity for a postponed celebration.
We would love to have you participate in the June ceremony. There is no need to RSVP to the ceremony at this time. However, if you are a DPT student, please notify the EWU EagleStore of your intentions and arrange for your regalia.
All graduating students will be included in the University program. Students not attending the June ceremony can request a program and diploma cover be mailed to them. The University program will also be available online for download.
Yes. If you are choosing not to participate in the June ceremony, you can return your unused regalia to the EWU EagleStore when they reopen. If you’d like to keep your honor cord or stole, you may do so, but you will only be refunded for the returned unused items.
DPT students who do NOT want to participate in the June ceremony will need to contact Jostens at 800.854.7464 to cancel their order BEFORE April 16. Cancellation requests received after April 16 for doctoral regalia will be denied.
Please encourage them to contact their travel or lodging provider. Given the current circumstances, many companies have been lenient with their cancellation policies.
Josten’s has provided a template that you can use to include with your announcements regarding the postponed ceremony.
