The Post 9/11 GI Bill® provides financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90 days of active duty service on or after September 11, 2001, or for individuals discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill®. Your benefit will be based on your length of active duty service.
Transfer of Post 9/11 GI Bill® Benefits to Dependents (TEB)
The transferability option under the Post-9/11 GI Bill® allows Service members to transfer all or some unused benefits to their spouse or dependent children.
The request to transfer unused GI Bill® benefits to eligible dependents must be completed while serving as an active member of the Armed Forces. The Department of Defense (DoD) determines whether or not you can transfer benefits to your family. Once the DoD approves benefits for transfer, the new beneficiaries will need to apply for them at VA via their online application.

The Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance (DEA) Program, also known as Chapter 35, offers education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of Veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition or of Veterans who died while on active duty or as a result of a service-related condition.
Benefits are available for undergraduate and graduate training for up to 45 months prior to August 1, 2018 and 36 months after August 1, 2018.
The MGIB-AD program—known as Chapter 30—provides education benefits to Veterans and Service members who have at least two years of active duty. Eligible Service members may receive up to 36 months of education benefits. You usually have 10 years to use your MGIB benefits.
MGIB-SR program - known as Chapter 1606- provides education and training benefits to eligible members of the Armed Forces Selected Reserve; includes Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve, Coast Guard Reserve, Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. Eligibility for this program is determined by the DOD Selected Reserve components and VA makes the payments.

This program is designed to assist veterans with service-connected disabilities obtain and maintain employment. Also referred to as Chapter 31, VR&E helps those eligible with job training, employment accommodations, resume development, and job seeking skills coaching. Attending school can be part of this retraining process.
- Didn’t receive a dishonorable discharge, and
- Have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10% from VA, and
- Apply for VR&E services
