Three before me is all about students being able to independently ask three peers within the classroom Before going to ask their teacher. students may use the strategy when asking for help in repeating directions as well as other general questions that they may have before confronting the teacher.
When a task needs to be done, count down from a reasonable number, once the counter reaches zero, pick the student’s spirits up by congratulating them and thanking them for their cooperation.
Signal interference is one of those tools that is a non-verbal way to correct your students when they are doing an appropriate behavior within your classroom. This tool does not cause any distractions towards other students and it is meant to only target one or multiple specific students who are having difficulty that need to be corrected. What’s great about the strategy is that peers around them will not be distracted by this corrective tool.
Silent Thumbs Up is a method for communicating whether or not students have completed a task or assignment. It is a great way to allow students to communicate without disturbing others by talking.
Sticker Check-In is helpful for understanding how students are feeling through the use of stickers and a chart. It allows teachers to see where their students are at mentally and emotionally so that decisions can be made accordingly.
The 3 A’s of Restitution is a three part process to making amends after exhibiting anti-social behavior. This tool guides students through taking responsibility for their actions and then correcting them.
Voice Level is a technique that helps students to visually see where the noise level should be. At any given time of the day, students should be able to know where the noise level should be- silent, whisper, table talk, or presenter.
This tool is a great way to implement a positive community in the classroom. Many times we think of positive behaviors and accomplishments people around us do but do not tell them. Praise is one of the most simple and effective methods for engaging and motivating your students. Praise, when used correctly, may help children overcome behavioral issues and enhance their attitudes toward learning.
SLANT is a tool for getting student attention. In a call-and-response style, the teacher raises their hand and shouts, “slant!”. The students all respond, “slant!”, and then give the teacher full attention and a zero voice level.
Fuzzy Friend is a stuffed animal of any sort that will remain on a different student’s desk every day. Students will decide at the end of each day which student was helpful, friendly, giving, respectful, etc. will get the fuzzy friend to sit on their desk the next day.
