Doorbell rings/sounds are used as a signal for classroom transitions. The doorbell is soft on the ears and simple. This will let students know it is time to transition in small groups, whole group, or partner work.
The teacher has students find a partner. Each partnership receives one flashlight. The teacher turns off the lights and the student’s partner reads for 15 minutes.
Behavior goals are letting your students take responsibility for their behavior by setting a daily behavior goal, and taking notes on their results at the end of class. This tool will help students stay well behaved throughout the class by trying to meet their chosen goal.
Classroom expectations can be used to come up with expectations as a class. This will set boundaries and expectations for the year and will be hung up in the classroom for students to refer back to.
Group contracts can be used as a guide to running group tasks smoothly and effectively. Because each member should participate in making group expectations, they are more likely to abide by them. this will help reduce any arising conflicts/misbehavior while students are working together.
This tool allows students to check in with their assigned teams. It helps students stay on track with their work and gives students an idea of how their peers feel that day.
The soft start morning choice board is a google slide that is put up on the whiteboard each morning that includes the student’s jobs for the morning as well as soft start choices. Soft start is when students come in and have a slow beginning to their day where they are able to talk to the teacher, color, use play-doh, interact with their peers, and play with toys before starting the day academically. The soft-start is helpful because it starts students’ morning off on the right foot and allows the theater to have personal interactions with students that aren’t necessarily school-related to continue to build that relationship.
ClassDojo is a communication tool put into place by teachers/schools in order to keep in contact with parents and students. Parents are able to interact with their students, as well as being kept up to date on anything going on in the classroom/school/district.
At the beginning of the year, with your class you will discuss the issue of noise level in your classroom. During this conversation, you will explain to students that there needs to be noise levels set in place in order to control the volume in your class. The students can help you come up with the level names, but these levels will be referred to before lessons, work time and group work.
Flexible seating is the practice of allowing and providing many seating options for students. This means having different types of seats like yoga balls, chairs, couches, stools, etc. This also means given students the freedom to choose where they sit.
