AAC Table Talk is a wonderful device made for students who need special help with getting their thoughts and feelings out.
AAC Table Talk is a unique tool for kids with autism and other special needs. This device allows them to show their true emotions without having to do it themselves. There are certain buttons on a tablet that they press, that emotion then pops up on the screen showing how they feel. Teachers and other students can look at this device while doing projects with the student and know how they are feeling and can also communicate with the student more efficiently also allowing them to feel like a regular kid participating in class. This device is wonderful for kids who struggle to speak or participate with other students in class.
Table Talk can relate to each of the three phases- preventative, supportive, and corrective. But it mainly goes under supportive. The student uses this device to support their speech and thoughts. You can think of it as a huge emoji constantly showing its face. For the preventative phase, it can prevent meltdowns by showing how that student is feeling instead of the teacher trying to guess by their sounds and facial expressions. For the correctional phase you could tell jimmy if the emotion he used was appropriate. For example, say Jimmy and Claire are fighting and can't play nice. Jimmy uses a devil face to signify he is angry. You walk over "Jimmy is there maybe another emotion you can use to help Clair know how you feel?" The Table Talk is a great tool and helps those who need to learn how to share, show emotion, and talk.
