Classroom Curtains

Student Contributor: M. Vargas
Classroom Curtains allows you to hide any shelves that have supplies or objects that are not in use at the moment. By hiding the materials, you prevent students from getting distracted during lessons and it helps prevent the students from using those supplies.

Classroom curtains help you establish and maintain an organized classroom throughout the school year. Classroom curtains should be used as an aid in maintaining student’s attention by hiding things that are not in use. These curtains should be easy to remove from their locations and move around the classroom to fit your needs. It is important to keep the design of the curtains in mind as they too can become a distraction for students. The curtains should match your classroom theme and add to the classroom environment. If desired, you can have the students help you choose the curtains.

Classroom curtains fall under the preventative phase as you anticipate a certain behavior such as the students getting distracted by the supplies and in turn acted by creating the curtains that will prevent the supplies from being an issue. However, it does also help maintain a desired behavior which is part of the supportive phase. This tool is teacher-directed as the teacher is the one choosing the arrangement for the curtains. Classroom curtains is also more about an organized setting that discourages misbehavior and minimizing disruption. This tool could be collaborative as well if you establish the rules and choose the curtains designs with the students.
