Three before me is all about students being able to independently ask three peers within the classroom Before going to ask their teacher. students may use the strategy when asking for help in repeating directions as well as other general questions that they may have before confronting the teacher.
This tool is simple and effective due to the ability that you can teach it beforehand at the beginning of the school year in order to begin to have your students implement it right away. In a sense this can also help build classroom community due to students having to communicate effectively with each other and work on personal responsibility when it comes to their education. The tool is also great because it can be used within group work as well as independent work because all students should know how to utilize the tool and therefore they will be able to implement it in both of those settings.
This exact tool belongs within the preventative stage. I selected the stage due to this tool being used to keep students on task as well as allowing the teacher to have the kids focus on becoming more independent and less rely on their teacher for every little thing they need. With this type of tool, you can truly see which of your students are understanding the material presented to them as well as the ones who may be struggling and can receive help either from you or their peers. This tool falls right in between collaborative and teacher centered theory of influence due to the fact that the teacher themselves have to direct and facilitate this tool within the first month of school.
