EWU has partnered with MultiCare Rockwood to provide students with a basic level of health services paid for through the Comprehensive Health & Wellness Fee. For students looking for additional medical coverage, EWU also offers optional medical insurance through myAHP, as well as resources for navigating the WA Health Plan Finder.

Student health services through MultiCare Rockwood provides a basic level of health services to students such as Primary Care, Urgent Care, STD/STI care & pregnancy testing. The Cheney Clinic is located just steps from campus.

FAQs

Students must pay the Comprehensive Health & Wellness Fee to be eligible for services. This is an automatic fee that typically applies to who are taking 6+ credits and live within 50 miles of the Cheney/Spokane campus.

Student who are not eligible include Running Start Students, students in accelerated online programs, and students who are in part-time programs.

If you are taking less than 6 credits and would like to opt-in to access EWU Student Health Services, you may contact EWU Financial Services to request to pay the Comprehensive Health & Wellness Fee (Please note, services are only available in Spokane county).

Summer Coverage

  • Summer coverage is voluntary, even if you’re taking summer classes – these services are not included as part of summer tuition and fees
  • The health fee must be paid during the summer open enrollment up to the 10th day of the first session to be eligible for Student Health Services. Please contact EWU Financial Services if you would like to opt-in to summer coverage.
  • Students requesting summer services must be registered for summer classes OR be a continuing student in the fall quarter.

EWU Student Health Services can be accessed at any MultiCare Rockwood location within Spokane County. We recommend students access the Cheney Rockwood Clinic, as this clinic is most familiar with EWU Student Health Services.

  • Students eligible for health services must present their EWU ID card (Eagle Card) at the time of their visit and identify themself as an EWU student currently eligible for the health services when scheduling an appointment.
  • If you are unclear about which services are covered and which are not, contact the student health clinic at 509-235-6151 during regular office hours before you receive care.

Quarter Students have access to two (2) visits per quarter. Semester Students have access to three (3) visits per semester.

Additional Information

  • It is recommended to carry your private insurance card with you and show it at the time of services as well.
  • MultiCare Rockwood Clinic does bill private insurance for expenses that are not covered under the student health plan. However, they may not be able to bill some insurances, or your health insurance provider may not allow you to be seen by a MultiCare Rockwood provider. Some insurance plans have deductibles and copays.
  • This health contract will not pay for any emergency department, hospital visits, or major procedures or surgeries. Indigo Clinics are not covered under EWU Student Health Services. Any care received outside the MultiCare Rockwood Clinic system is the responsibility of the student.
  • Students are responsible for any outstanding charges not covered by the Student Health contract with MultiCare Rockwood Clinic.

Quarter Students

  • Fall quarter coverage begins the first Monday prior to the start of fall classes and ends the day before the start of the next quarter.
  • Winter and Spring quarter coverage begins on the first day of class.

Semester Students

  • Coverage begins on the first day of classes and ends on the last day of classes or graduation.

Additional Information

  • Summer Term coverage begins the first day of the first session. Students must opt in for Summer coverage – see “Who is Eligible?” above for more information regarding opting in to summer coverage.
  • There is no lapse in coverage for continuing students during winter break or spring break.

You may visit any MultiCare Rockwood location in Spokane County, including Rockwood Urgent Care locations. This contract does not cover MultiCare Indigo Urgent Care Clinics. Urgent Care and walk-in visits are for immediate care needs. You should make an appointment for routine or non-urgent concerns.

Eastern Washington University has partnered with myAHP to provide students with optional student medical insurance.

Domestic students taking 10 credits or more are eligible to purchase this plan. For coverage during summer, domestic students must have three or more credit hours on-campus.

  • Optional dental & vision coverage
  • Insured students who are enrolled in the optional insurance may also enroll their spouses and/or dependents
