Sexual Wellness

Counseling & Wellness offers the Protection Provider program to support the sexual wellness needs of EWU students.

This FREE service is for all EWU students. If you are living in the residence halls, you can order condoms and other barrier devices to be delivered discreetly right to your mailbox! (Students not living on campus can pick up products in our Wellness Office, located in URC 201.)

Goals of the program:

  • Promote use of barrier methods during sexual activity
  • Reduce STI transmission rates among students
  • Remove obstacles to accessing safer sex supplies, including privacy and embarrassment
  • Promote consent and STD testing

Steps to Put on an External Condom:

  1. Check the expiration date, ensure it has an air pocket and open carefully
  2. Pinch air out of the tip, make sure it is not inside out and the rim is on the outside
  3. Put condom on erect penis before it touches partner’s mouth or genital area
  4. Roll condom down to the base and wear the entire time you’re having sex
  5. After ejaculation, completely withdrawal penis while still erect and dispose of condom in a garbage

Steps to Put on an Internal Condom:

  1. Check the expiration date, ensure it has an air pocket and open carefully
  2. Squeeze the ides of the inner ring at the closed end with your fingers
  3. Insert condom into vagina with your finger, like you would a tampon
  4. Put the condom in as far back as possible, the outer ring will hang out about an inch
  5. After sex, twist the outer ring and pull to remove and dispose of condom in a garbage

For use during oral sex between the mouth and vagina or anus and/or with toys.

  • Barrier that prevents skin to skin contact, as well as vaginal or semen fluids from entering partner
  • Sexually transmitted infections can be transmitted through oral and/or anal sex
  • Flavored thin latex sheet (6″x10″)

Steps to Use an Oral Dam:

  1. Open package carefully; do not open it with scissors or tear it open with your teeth
  2. Unfold the dam, looking for holes or damage
  3. Lay the dam across the vaginal or anal area. Lube on the dam can help hold it in place. During oral sex, hold dam in place to prevent it from slipping
  4. After oral sex, fold the dam up and dispose in a garbage

  • Spermicide-free
  • When used with condoms, increases pleasure and reduces risk of breakage

FAQs

Any EWU student that lives in a Residence Hall on campus can order barrier devices (such as condoms) and personal lubricant for FREE!
Your Protection Provider Pack will arrive discreetly in your residence hall mailbox, typically within 5-7 days after your order is placed.

Steps:

  1. Place an order for your products using our online request form
  2. Receive an email order confirmation with an estimated shipping date
  3. Check your residence hall mailbox for your protection provider pack!

Protection Provider deliveries do not operate during breaks (winter break, spring break, and summer break) or weekends.

Any student is welcome to come to the Wellness Office in URC 201 to pick up Protection Provider products.

This program addresses public health concerns, as well as direct health concerns of a college aged population.

  • 1 in 2 sexually active young people will get an STI by the age of 25.
  • Less than half of WA state high schools (45%) provide sexual health education and often it doesn’t include information on how to obtain and use barrier devices;
  • Only 27.2% of EWU students used a barrier device the last time they had vaginal intercourse within the last 30 days. Many STDs can be prevented with proper and consistent use of barrier devices;
  • Of those sexually active; the last time students had vaginal intercourse, 60% reported using a contraceptive* (as follows):
    • 37% Male Condom;
    • 40% Birth Control Pill (no protection against STDs);
    • 19% Intrauterine Device (IUD) (no protection against STDs);
    • 16% Withdrawal (no protection against STDs and pregnancy).

All orders are received by staff in the Wellness Office. Our office’s services are private, and we will not share information about students’ utilization of Protection Provider with parents, academic advisors, professors, or anyone else outside of our office.
