James Heirs, M.A., LMHC *
Psychological Counselor

About Me
James never seems to do things in a straight line.
James graduated with a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Gonzaga University, looking for the best way to help others. This was after getting a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice at the University of Texas at San Antonio and interning with the U.S. Marshals. Once grad school was over, he worked in community mental health for a while before pivoting into the nonprofit world. Upon reflection, he decided that he was most fulfilled working as a student wellness facilitator at Gonzaga, and found a similar job at the University of Maine as an alcohol and drug educator and therapist. That led to a job as a case manager at Gonzaga, and finally to Eastern Washington University. There was a certificate in Technical Writing from the University of Washington somewhere in there, too.
His approach emphasizes empowerment, motivation, and recognizing the value in identifying and communicating emotions effectively. People are never finished, they are always a work in progress.
When not working, James is often reading, writing, watching movies, spending time with his family, and taking care of his school of fish.

Rán’s clinical interests include anxiety, grief and loss, trauma, biofeedback and mindfulness. She draws from humanistic, solution-focused, mindfulness and acceptance based approaches to the therapeutic process.
She feels deeply honored to journey along-side students, as they navigate life’s many challenges, and is committed to showing-up for and empowering her fellow humans, while staying curious and humble in the process.
Rán loves hanging out with her family (which includes, her husband, two sons, daughter, and Golden Retriever, Charlie), traveling and being in the outdoors, whether that’s finding new trails to explore, paddle boarding, kayaking, swimming in random lakes, gardening, or just watching the clouds float by. She aspires to pick up her passion for the arts again, some day.
