A Pre Planned Response is a pre thought out response that you can use to let a student know that you know they are misbehaving but you do not want to interrupt the class by dealing with the problem directly. For example, “[students name], please tell me the class rule on [state general idea of rule].”
This tool avoids confrontation and disruption in the class room by letting a misbehaving student know that you are aware they are misbehaving but are not going to deal with it directly in that moment. These responses are usually rhetorical and are made to make the whole classroom think about the answer not just the student it is directed too. By having these responses you can improve your confidence and effectiveness as a teacher. These responses are also pre planned so they will save time when trying to deal with a misbehaving students. Often these questions you are asking the student they do not need to directly answer because then that would disrupt the flow of the class.
This tool is corrective because it is correcting a behavior that you as the teacher believe is not good and is being disruptive by asking a question for the class to think about. This tool is also teacher directed because you as the teacher are saying the question to the class and misbehaving student, and because the student does not have to respond directly to the rhetorical question you are the sole collaborator.
