Classroom Mailbox

Student Contributor: A. McDonnell
I took a previous tool and changed it to fit my classroom better. The students write in their letter in a certain color, let’s say blue if they want a teacher check-in, advice, or help and another color let’s say orange if they just need to get something off their chest (example, tattling or having a bad day)

Students will be able to write anything they are feeling or needing to stay on provided paper. Every day after school, I will check the mailbox. If the students write in blue, this indicates that I will either write them back and leave the advice on their desk for the next day or pull them aside next morning to discuss. But if they wrote in orange, this indicates that the student just needed to get something of their check or just wants me to be aware of something.

To me, this hits multiple phases, but I would like to emphasize how this reaches the preventative phase. I believe that it will prevent interruption during class time because whatever students would normally come up to me about to let me know (something that happened at recess, how someone is treating them, etc.) will be reduced because they can write it out then move forward. Also the tattling situation will be reduced which prevents further time being taken away from what they should be working on.
