JFK Library recently has access to the new streaming video database AVON which is available through library A-Z Database List. The AVON (Academic Video Online) delivers more than 70,000 titles spanning the widest range of subject areas including anthropology, business, counseling, film, health, history, music, and more. If you need streaming videos for your upcoming courses, please consider using videos from AVON.
In the past several years, the library subscribed to Kanopy service, which automatically billed us each time a video was clicked on four times (even if it was only watched for a few seconds each time). Due to Kanopy’s purchasing model which has no flexibility, the library has decided to switch to the Academic Video Online, which is a comparable service. AVON charges a flat fee for the year for unlimited viewing of its videos, rather than billing us each time another video needs licensing.
Faculty who use videos from Kanopy for your courses, please first check availability of the videos or maybe seek alternative titles in AVON. If you still would like students in class to view a video which is only available through Kanopy, please submit a request for access to the video via the request form in Kanopy. The library will take care of your video requests on a case-by-case basis and manually activate each individual title. Doing it this way is helping us control costs while still getting faculty the videos you want for your classes.
For more information about AVON and Kanopy video requests, please read the recent library announcement.
