Greetings from Your Librarian – Fall 2023

Dear Faculty,

Hello from your librarian liaison! I hope you all have had a good summer break.

I know most of you, but for anyone new – I’m Liya Deng and I am an Associate Professor/Social Sciences Librarian with the School of Libraries in the CPP. I currently serve as the librarian liaison for several departments within the CPP. I enjoy working with you as faculty in terms of your library instruction needs, and interacting with your students as they learn more about the variety of library resources and services they can access.

Each quarter, I hold office hours in which students (and you!) can stop by my office (Lib M04) to chat and ask me any questions. Please do not hesitate to post this information in your Canvas courses and encourage your students to contact me at ldeng@ewu.edu or at 509-359-2333 if they need library research assistance! This quarter I will hold my office hours on Thursdays, 12:00pm-2:00pm. These hours will start the week of Wednesday, September 20.

As usual, I would like to remind you that you can always contact me to request subject-specific library instruction sessions for classes you teach this quarter. Also, if you have any needs for library materials for your courses, just send me the information. I can then check on any availability through vendors that our library utilizes.

Finally, I would like you to be aware of the course reserve service available year round at our JFK library. If you are interested in placing material on reserve for one or more of your classes, please visit the circulation desk at either campus or submit your request electronically at https://www.ewu.edu/library/request-and-borrow/ If you have any questions regarding course reserves, please contact JFK Library Circulation directly at (509) 359-7888.

Don’t hesitate to follow up with me with any questions – and wishing you a wonderful fall quarter!

All the best,

Liya
