Why are IPEDS numbers different than other numbers?
IPEDS requires us to:
- Add students who entered in the summer to the following fall student numbers
- Classify Running Start students as non-degree seeking students
- Classify matriculating post-baccalaureate students as matriculating undergraduate students
- Exclude ESL students from the enrollment numbers altogether
- Classify all non-binary students as "Female" or "Male." We allocate non-binary students based on the known proportion of females to males.
- Apply a race/identity category only to students who are U.S. citizens
- Classify all students who are U.S. citizens and who identify as Hispanic/Latino as Hispanic/Latino, even if they identify with more than one race
- Classify all student visa holders and DACA students under the "Nonresident Alien" category, even if they identify as Hispanic/Latino
- Classify all other undocumented students (like HB 1079 students who are not part of DACA) under the "Race/Ethnicity Unknown" category, even if they identify as Hispanic/Latino
- Use student FTE formulas that are different from Washington's Office of Financial Management (OFM) formulas
