Spring 2020 Pilot of the EagleCare Network
Latest update: March, 2020
For those of you who are new to the network and the pilot, here's some information:
The network brings together faculty, advisors, and other departments across campus to proactively assist students if a student is in danger of failing a course or leaving the university. It's something we've always done, but new tools can help us provide more complete care faster and more easily.
Those in the network will use new tools in Navigate:
Progress Reports
A progress report allows a faculty member to communicate interim grades for one, some, or all of their students. It is different from entering official grades into EagleNET. Instead, progress reports allow for instant communication between faculty and care team partners who are vested in student success.
Alerts
An alert is used when a student is at risk of failing a course or leaving the university. An alert will notify a care team partner about the student’s need to we can help the student promptly.
Cases
A case is a way to track the status of an alert. Cases are assigned to specific individuals, and the case tools in Navigate allow for easy tracking of open and closed cases.
Our current partners are:
- Athletics
- The Center for Academic Advising and Retention (CAAR)
- The Faculty members teaching ENGL 101 & 103 in Spring Quarter 2019
- Programs Leading to University Success (PLUS)
- Student Financial Services
Contact Roy Caligan or Heather Page in CAAR if you’d like to join the network.
You can leave feedback by entering your comments here.
Faculty Progress Reports
Please talk with Drs. Justin Young or Max Hohner about the best time to submit a progress report.
- Log into Navigate
- Go to your Professor Home
- Click the Progress Reports link next to your class and follow the instructions from there
If you receive an email asking you to submit a progress report, the request is coming from the Athletics department, and they need interim grade information for some student athletes. Simply click the link in the email and follow the instructions.
Alerts and Cases
You should submit an alert any time a student is at risk of failing a course or leaving the university.
- Talk with the student first. Encourage the student to talk with the care team partner and tell the student that you will contact the partner as well. Then,
- Log into Navigate
- Search for the student
- Click “Submit an Alert” and follow the instructions from there
The recipients and actions are specific to the reason for the alert. Here what we’re testing in the pilot:

Reason: Transferring/Dropping Out
Recipients: The student’s coded advisor and the CAAR Leadership Team
Actions: The student’s advisor should talk with the student to see if anything can be done. The CAAR Leadership Team will be notified as a courtesy.
Reason: Tutoring/Academic Coaching Recommended

Only if you tell them. Encourage the student to talk with the care team partner and tell the student that you will contact the partner as well.
You will receive an email message that will give you the details.
The email will give you details about the student’s situation and the expected actions of the care team members.
