Tandem or Split Model of Advising?
NOTE: CHSPH is the only college fully transitioned to Tandem Advising as of 12/3/2024. The final three colleges will be a part of the Tandem Advising Model beginning in Fall 2025.
Under the Split model of advising, once a student is transitioned to a faculty advisor, that advisor is the sole advisor responsible for academic advising. “Major Ready” is when a student is transitioned to a faculty advisor from a CAAR advisor. Each department defines this “Major Ready” point and is different from department to department. Under the Tandem advising model, the student will be assigned both a CAAR advisor and a faculty advisor/mentor during their first term at EWU, and both will share the responsibility for advising the student until they graduate – a true collaboration!
If you need assistance or clarification on advising issues or technology, you can reach out to the Center for Academic Advising and Retention (CAAR). The CAAR team is here to assist departments with any questions related to advising. Feel free to reach out!
