Lynn Briggs, PhD, is a Professor of English, began at EWU in 1994 as the Director of the Writers’ Center. She was chosen in a national search as Dean of Arts and Letters in 2007. As inaugural Dean of the College of Arts, Letters and Education, she has experience integrating organizations in the university. Her recent research with Jon Hammermeister into the impact of teaching mental fitness skills in composition courses is a potential high impact practice that fits well with other high impact practices located in the college.

Dr. Brian Davenport works with faculty to coordinate service-learning along with course and program development related to community engagement. Dr. Davenport was an Assistant Professor of Leadership and Organizational Studies at the University of Southern Maine and he served as the Assistant Director of the Master in Teaching Program at Whitworth University. Dr. Barbara Holland, a leader in the area of community engagement, describes him as someone who “has often demonstrated his ability to bring people together, to encourage collaboration, and to build bridges of shared understanding.” Dr. Davenport has professional experience as both a faculty member and staff member and he moves easily between those spheres.

Christina Torres Garcia, PhD

Dr. Torres García earned her Ph.D. in Cultural Studies and Social Thought from Washington State University. Currently, she is the Director of the TRiO Ronald E. McNair Post-baccalaureate Achievement Program and has taught in the fields of Chicano Studies, Sociology, Women’s and Gender Studies at Eastern Washington University and Chicano Studies at Yakima Valley Community College.

Her research interests and studies focus on historical, social, and political issues affecting Chicanas/Latinas in the Pacific Northwest. Her interest in illustrating the dynamic modus operandi of the intersections of systematic layers of oppression has resulted in reclaiming the voices of Chicanas and Latinas whose life stories enrich academia today. As a Chicana from Mexican farm working background and first-generation college student, Dr. Torres García’s life dedication is to raise critical consciousness among students by unveiling social inequalities and empowering marginalized groups to become agents of positive change and engage them in civic responsibilities
