Where to Start

You've made it to your Academic Advising Checklist! Click each section to make sure you are ready for your first quarter.

1. Set Up your EWU Eagles Email Expand

Your Eagles email is the primary way that EWU will communicate with you. If you didn't set this up already, please do so now. It is important to check your email frequently, at least once a week.

2. How to Get Your First Quarter Courses Expand

Freshman: At the beginning of March, we will send all confirmed freshman our New Student Questionnaire. Please complete the questionnaire as soon as possible. Your answers will help your Student Success Advisor create a schedule that fits your interests for your first quarter.

We will begin scheduling New Student Advising Appointments with students who have completed the questionnaire at the beginning of May.  Make sure to regularly check your Eagles Email for your invitation to schedule!

*Freshman beginning in quarters other than fall will be contacted by a CAAR Advisor through their Eagles Email for an invitation to schedule an advising appointment to create a personalized schedule.

Transfer: We schedule Transfer Student Advising Appointments with transfer students whose transcripts have been received and evaluated. Make sure to regularly check your Eagles Email for your invitation to schedule!

3. Math Placement Expand

Before you can register for math courses at Eastern, we need to determine your math placement. The goal is to recommend a placement that considers your past experience with mathematics as well as other factors that indicate student success, such as your cumulative GPA.  This placement may also be used by other courses in other subjects that have a math prerequisites (such as Chemistry).

At the beginning of April, we will open a Math Placement Self-Report Form, where you will use your high school transcript and AP, IB, or CLEP test scores (if applicable) to submit requested information.

ALEKS Math Placement Test

Students starting prior to Fall 2021 who have not taken a college level math course must take the ALEKS Math Placement Test before they can register for math courses or any course with a math prerequisite.  Students starting Fall 2021 or later who wish to challenge their math placement may take ALEKS.

4. Order Textbooks Expand

Buy your textbooks in the University Bookstore or through the University Bookstore website. Find your books by the course code, course number and section number (example: ENGL 101-05). To find your class schedule: 

  1. Login to InsideEWU
  2. Select EagleNET
  3. Select the Students tab
  4. Click Concise Student Schedule in the Registration box.

Your course schedule is also available in Navigate Student.

5. FYE Courses Expand

First Year Experience (FYE) courses at EWU  are designed for incoming students with less than 45 college credits to familiarize them with the EWU community, resources available to them, and emphasize the development of success skills to assist them in being successful at EWU and beyond. All FYE courses meet a general education requirement that counts toward graduation.
