Sticker Check-In is helpful for understanding how students are feeling through the use of stickers and a chart. It allows teachers to see where their students are at mentally and emotionally so that decisions can be made accordingly.
Sticker Check-In is a way to take a look at how students are doing mentally and emotionally through the use of stickers and a chart. The tool can be used multiple times a day or just once to measure how students are feeling. Students would place a sticker on a piece of graph paper next to their name each time the check-in is used. The types of stickers used are up to the teacher, but there should be a variety to represent a range of emotions. Students should be involved in determining the key for the stickers so that the different stickers have actual meaning to them. The key, chart, and stickers should be easily accessible to the students.
I placed Sticker Check-In in the supportive phase because it is a way to build community. Students are able to show their feelings, while understanding each other’s feelings as well. Teachers can also see what students are feeling as individuals and have the opportunity to strengthen the relationships that they have with their students. When students are able to express their thoughts and emotions, teachers can help students have the best learning experience possible by understanding the mood of the classroom. Sticker Check-In is placed in student-directed because it requires students to take responsibility for their feelings and behaviors. It is also placed under collaborative because the stickers aid teachers in understanding where their students are at mentally and emotionally.
