IPEDS Definition
IPEDS uses the following categories for a student’s race:
- American Indian or Alaska Native
- Asian
- Black or African American
- Hispanic/Latino
- Native Hawaiian or Other Pacific Islander
- Nonresident Alien
- Two or more races
- Unknown
- White
Note: IPEDS also states that any student identifying as Hispanic/Latino, even if they identify with two or more races or non-resident alien status, are categorized as Hispanic/Latino.
