Research Interests

Dr. Gus Nollmeyer has a number of research interests that revolve around transforming elementary classrooms into places that students love to be and places where they are incredibly successful both academically and socially. Therefore, he is interested in project-based learning, subject-area integration, scientific inquiry, and classroom management.

Current & Recent Projects

Gus is working with Dr. Kathryn Baldwin on the Science Education Equipment Loan (SEEL) program. The program connects elementary inservice educators with materials and equipment for conducting authentic scientific inquiry in the classroom. A significant barrier to high quality science education is resource access. Most elementary rooms have limited room for storage of technical equipment let alone the budgets needed for building such an equipment library. The SEEL program allows teachers to order materials on loan for free use in their classrooms.

Gus is also working with colleagues across the state on NSF funded efforts for the Next Generation of STEM Teacher Preparation. This multiyear effort is a statewide force attempting to shape teacher preparation in response to CCSS and NGSS.
