Petitioning for Academic Reinstatement

Academic Reinstatement
Undergraduate students who have been academically dismissed must petition to return to EWU. Before applying, review the Satisfactory Progress Policy.

  • First-time dismissal: Eligible after sitting out one academic term (Fall, Winter, or Spring).
  • Second-time dismissal: Eligible after one full calendar year (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer).

The purpose of an academic reinstatement petition is to give you the opportunity to reflect on your academic challenges, share your story, and demonstrate what you’ve learned from your experiences. This is your chance to provide meaningful, thoughtful responses and present a clear, realistic plan for how you will support your future academic success.

Your petition must demonstrate academic readiness by explaining:
✔ Steps taken to improve academic success
✔ Positive academic progress (e.g., coursework at another institution)
✔ Your plan to achieve future academic goals

For help, contact your academic advisor.

Financial Aid Reinstatement
Academic reinstatement does not guarantee financial aid reinstatement. Contact the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships for details on eligibility.

Question 1: What circumstances led to your academic dismissal?
Be specific and honest about the challenges you experienced over time. Include any personal, academic, financial, or other factors that affected your GPA. ✔ Reflect on your academic habits, choices, and patterns
✔ Identify what you now know about your strengths and weaknesses
✔ Share moments that shifted your perspective or helped you learn

Question 3: What is your plan to be successful if reinstated?
