Frequently Asked Questions

We hold the Eastern Washington University Student Research and Creative Works Symposium every year in early May. It's never too early to start planning, so we would like to address a few common questions.

  • What is a symposium?

    • A symposium is another name for a conference or meeting to discuss a specific subject. At EWU, the Student Research and Creative Works Symposium is an excellent opportunity to showcase your work in a professional setting.

  • What is an abstract?

    • Unlike what the term "abstract" implies, an abstract is not abstract at all--it is a concise, academic paragraph that describes your scholarly project. Information about this year's abstract submissions can be found here. If you have any questions, please contact the Symposium office at symposium@ewu.edu.

  • Is the Student Research and Creative Works Symposium a formal affair?

    • The Student Research and Creative Works Symposium is business casual which is essentially casual wear with some some smart components of more formal attire. Imagine a clean pair of slacks over some torn jeans and trade in that hoodie for a buttoned up shirt with a collar. Remember, this is a professional setting, so dress for the job you want, not the job you have.

  • Who will be presenting at the Student Research and Creative Works Symposium?

    • Short answer is You! Students from EWU, as well as students from Spokane community colleges and other universities.

  • How much does it cost to attend the Student Research and Creative Works Symposium?

    • The Symposium is free of charge. So come see the great works that students like you are doing across campus.
