I teach a variety of courses in the Biology Department; however, Fundamentals of Genetics (BIOL 310), Molecular Biology (BIOL 438), and the Biotechnology Series (BIOL 485, 488, 489, and 490A) are the courses I teach most regularly.

During my tenure at EWU, I have developed several specialized courses, including a capstone course in bioinformatics and a virology course (BIOL 432). I also created Human Genetics (currently BIOL 396) as an elective designed to serve both biology majors and students from other disciplines across the university.

In Fall 2018, I developed Molecular Biotechniques, a hands-on laboratory course that has proven to be both engaging and enjoyable for students and for me. This course is now offered annually.

More recently, I designed two courses focused on biotechnology industry practices: Current Good Manufacturing Practices (BIOL 383) and Biotech Industry Regulatory Affairs (BIOL 384). These courses were developed in consultation with regional biotechnology industry partners and have been formally incorporated into the Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology curriculum. I will be teaching both of these courses for the first time during the 2025–26 academic year.

My overarching goal as an educator is to help students build a strong foundation of knowledge and develop the critical technical and analytical skills needed to succeed in any professional or academic path they pursue after graduating from EWU.
