Girls Step Camp

Girls+ STEM Camp at EWU

The purpose of this camp is to keep kids’ interest in STEM high so that more students, especially those who are underrepresented in STEM, enter STEM fields in college or their career.

2024 Camp Info

Where: Eastern Washington University Interdisciplinary Science Center (ISC)
When: August 5th and 6th
Who: Kids who will be in 3rd-5th grades during the 2024-2025 academic year
Cost: $20, scholarships available if needed

What activities are in this camp?

The camp will consist of hands-on activities from a variety of STEM disciplines including chemistry, biology, math, and engineering. Many of the activities will result in a product that participants will get to keep and remember their experience at camp.

Are there risks?

The risks in participating in camp activities are minimal. The sessions that carry the most risk are a tie-dye activity in which participants’ clothes might get stained and an activity in which participants will have the option of consuming a product that contains dairy products (ice cream).

I’d like my child to participate, but the $20 sign up fee is a problem.

Please don’t let the fee hinder participation, scholarships are available.

Is the camp only for girls?

All students who will be in grades 3-5 during the 2024-2025 school year are welcome! We named our camp Girls+ to encourage girls to participate, since females are a large underrepresented group in STEM fields.

How did you keep the cost of the camp so low?

This camp is funded by a generous give from the folks at Kaiser Aluminum. Thank you Kaiser!

I signed up, but the camp is out-of-stock.

Space in the camp is limited, but we are keeping a waiting list and will let you know if a space becomes available.

Who do I contact with questions, to get on the waiting list, or to obtain a scholarship?
