Explore Unique Opportunities

Study away and experience new places, ideas, and cultures. Attend one of 165+ colleges and universities for one or two academic terms while paying EWU tuition.

Have access to different campuses’ research programs, internships, extracurricular activities, and much more while living in a different geographical and cultural setting in North America or one of the U.S. territories, including Guam, Puerto Rico, or the U.S. Virgin Islands.

If you are ready for a language challenge, you can study in French in Quebec, and in Spanish in Puerto Rico.

If you are considering exchanging through NSE, think about what courses will transfer back to EWU and meet often with an academic advisor. Research course options during the application process, as availability varies from institution to institution:

Speak with Your Advisor

Talk with your advisor about how NSE will fit into your degree program before submitting the application. After being accepted into an NSE school, you should speak with your advisor again and bring with you your course transfer form, supplied by your NSE Coordinator.

Be flexible about the courses you want to take. You can view availability in the NSE Directory and in the exchange institution’s course catalog. For courses to transfer back to EWU, you must send your transcript from the exchange school to EWU.

Grades Transfer

Courses completed on exchange will be recorded on your EWU transcript with the course names, equivalent hours and grades posted.

Want to go on exchange but not sure where? Take a look at the NSE website at There is a complete list of participating schools. You can sort by state or by major to find the exchange school that’s right for you.

Things to keep in mind as you narrow down which school you’d like to attend:

  • Majors/Courses open to exchange students
  • Whether or not you need to/want to live on campus or not (some schools do not have housing; other schools REQUIRE you to live on campus.)
  • Which payment plan you’re willing to exchange on
